ysgol ifor bach, caerphilly
This new Welsh language infant and primary school is located on a brown field site. The single story provides eight classrooms, hall and kitchen, with external covered classrooms, playground, bus and car parking. With a special focus towards sustainability, the classrooms are all south facing, utilising and maximizing natural light. Artificial lighting is controlled through occupancy control and timer features.
TThe building is ventilated through opening roof lights and external wall mounted louvres. Rainwater is collected from the roof and stored in a buried tank for the purpose of flushing toilets, offsetting drinking-quality water from the mains. In a bid to maximize sustainability, a biomass boiler has been installed to heat the school, burning carbon-neutral wood fuel.
